Companion 比肩
The same element as you, standing at your shoulder — an equal, not a helper.
Companion is the Ten God (十神) that shares your Day Master's (日主) element and polarity — the same character as you, standing alongside. Where other Ten Gods describe something acting on you, Companion describes an equal: someone who wants what you want, by the same method.
How it tends to show up
People with a visible Companion often keep their own counsel. They are comfortable working without instruction, reluctant to be managed closely, and unusually steady when a plan has to be carried alone. Independence here is not a stance taken against others — it is simply the default setting.
The cost sits on the same axis. Resources get shared whether or not that was agreed, and help is hard to accept even when accepting it would be faster. A chart heavy with Companion can find collaboration slower than solitude, not because the person dislikes people, but because parity is harder to negotiate than hierarchy.
Where it comes from
Companion appears wherever a stem or hidden stem matches your Day Master in both element and polarity. Its weight depends on how many such positions exist and whether they sit in the open (a visible stem) or underneath (hidden in a branch) — an open Companion reads louder than a hidden one.
Read it against the whole chart
No single Ten God settles anything. Companion in a chart that already runs strong reads differently from Companion in a chart that needs support — in the first it can crowd, in the second it can steady. That judgement comes from the balance of the whole chart, not from the label.
